👋 Hi! I’m Jaclyn (she/her) - your safe Haven through the birthing process. Who I am as a doula is deeply related to my background - I’m a science girl with a masters degree, the daughter of a massage therapist, and lover of movement and plant-related hobbies. My approach to doula work encompasses evidence-based practices, supportive touch, and some hippy stuff just because it’s fun. You can think of me like your birth bff. We'll work together on your birth preferences and I’ll be supporting you and your loved ones from the first sign of labor all the way until the baby is in your arms.
I believe all births are natural and heroic - whether that's induction, c-section, unmedicated birth, or somewhere in between! The most important part is that YOU have autonomy in the process and can participate in shared decision-making with your providers.
As a doula, I'll help to demystify stages in the labor process and will empower you to make choices that feel right for you. I support clients of all backgrounds but am especially excited to support unconventional, LGBTQ2SIA+, and Latino families (hablo español!)
Important note! I am a new doula offering heavily discounted services - a wonderful option for families on a tight budget for their birth!
How I got into birth work
I first started working in the birth world in 2019 when I was the On-Ground Director for Casa Materna, a birthing center in rural Guatemala. I learned tons about birth and traditional midwifery from my colleagues while in that role. Since then my career has pivoted into epidemiology and research but I have never stopped wanting to get back into the birth world.
Educational Background
I am a DONA International-trained doula with a Bachelor’s in Biology from Duke University and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from UNC-Chapel Hill. I live in Durham with my husband Louis and our cat, Apolla.
"A trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible."
